Best Specialization for Rogue DPS

With the strong buff to Mutilate in Phase 2 of Season of Discovery reducing the energy cost from 60 to 40, Mutilate is easily the strongest combo point builder. The best talent build to utilize Mutilate is Assassination with Cold Blood and powerful poison talents like Improved Poisons.

As a combat rogue in WOTLK, you will focus mainly on Axes or Swords depending on your race. There are some reliable maces if you choose to go with the mace spec, but they are few and far between compared to the abundance of axes and swords.

Poisons are extremely powerful damage boosts for rogues, with most rogues opting for a Instant Poison VII and Deadly Poison IX combination for PvE and a Wound Poison VII and Crippling Poison combination for PvP as an as Combat Rogue.

Playing rogue in SoD is most fun. I loved phase 1 when i melt stuff with Honed Darkwater Talwar. Toped DPS meters in entire BFD. In phase 2 there is great change about Mutilate from 60 energy down to 40 energy.

Facts are outlaw is by far the hardest rogue spec and maybe even the hardest spec in this game. Even pro players like Drjay or Gingi say that outlaw is incredibly complex, fast and hard. Sub for example has the reputation of being hard while the hard part is actually learning a few kinda long burst sequences.

sub is the easiest, followed by outlaw than assa. sub rogue - very straight forward damage type and rotation, can macro alot of stuff as a beginner, nothing major to track beside cds (maybe rapture occesionaly), rotation is not hard.

Out of all three Rogue specs, we recommend Subtlety as the best choice for leveling. It offers the best single-target burst damage and allows you to dispatch enemies within only a few seconds, jumping from enemy to enemy in quick succession.

With Improved Gouge, a Rogue can Gouge an enemy and cast a nearly full Runecloth Bandage, healing up a large portion of their health. While you will mostly be using Combat Daggers in a group, Gouge doesn't have that much of an impact, but it is a great tool to have in a pinch!

The best weapon choices for rogues typically include Rapiers for melee combat and Longbows for ranged attacks. Rapiers offer precision and damage, while Longbows provide excellent range. Shortswords are also favored, especially when dual-wielded, for their versatility and agility in close combat situations.

You must hit the 8% hit rating cap to ensure that your abilities do not miss, but it is also heavily recommended that you also hit the 17% hit rating cap, which makes it so that your Poisons cannot miss either.

Sword or Mace Combat is usually considered to be the best spec for leveling because it has superior sustained damage and can handle multiple enemies very effectively. In addition to that, Combat doesn't rely on stealth or positional attacks and is as good at solo PVE farming/grinding as it is at running 5-man dungeons.

Turn the quest in at Master Mathias Shaw, and you will learn poisons. He will send you on an additional quest down to the cellar to see a gnome, but it doesn't matter. Go train crippling poisons at your rogue trainer, and then find a shady vendor and start brewing your poisons. Hooray!

As horde player, after you finish your Rogue quests ending in Tarren Mill where you get the Instant Poison, go back to the rogue Trainer to get your Crippling Poison.

Rogues make their own poisons using a Poisons skill. Poison ingredients are purchased at Shady Dealers or reagent vendors, found in junkboxes obtained through pickpocketing, or gathered with herbalism. Once you have the Poisons skill, you have to level it like a profession.
