I made Easy Swedish Meatballs several times, sometimes with rice, sometimes with pasta, with mashed potatoes, roasted potatoes, and doesn’t matter how I make it, my family eats it all right away! Traditional Swedish meatballs are served with sweet berry sauce or cranberry jam. For those who like sweet savory will be a perfect combination.

Kids are crazy about meatballs! Perhaps Swedish sauce is too strong (spiced, chilly) for them, but leave a few meatballs on the side and serve them without sauce over rice or noodles with cranberry jam. They will be very happy, and you have a perfect meal for everybody!

How To Make Easy Swedish Meatballs?

Swedish Meatballs are flavored with garlic, carrot, parsley, and a touch of nutmeg. A combination of spices with sauce gives their unique flavor.

I like to use at least 80% lean ground beef for this recipe, and if I mix meats – I do it with chicken.

Use dried bread crumbs, or fresh bread and crumble it into small pieces (absorbs the sauce better).

For the creamer, you can use heavy cream, half and half, or combine one of those with the milk. I prefer half and half, and regulate thickness of the sauce with water.

Choose a healthy method of cooking. Most recipes for Swedish Meatballs suggest frying in the skillet. In addition to being healthier, it’s easier to make them in the oven. In the meantime, you are completely free to make a sauce.

How To Make a Swedish Sauce?

Melt the butter in a large skillet and add the flour, gradually. Whisk well. Cook over low heat, pour the cream in and allow the mixture to heat and thicken. This will take about 5 minutes.

Add the Worcestershire sauce, parsley and seasoning, and regulate the density with water. Should be thick, but not over thickened. Taste, and if needed, season with salt and ground pepper. Shimmer, stirring gently, about 5 minutes more.

What Do You Serve With Sweedish Meatballs?

Swedish Meatballs are perfect with rice, mashed potatoes, roasted potatoes, pasta, noodles, homemade noodles or homemade pan. A side salad or steamed vegetables will complete this amazing meal.

Store in the freezer your Easy Swedish Meatballs and sauce in separate containers, up to 3 months.
