Rich Homie Quan talks about Summer Walker / Rap Retirement / Background Checks - Cornbread TV Ep.7

Funny Marco welcomes Dequantes Devontay Lamar, better known by his stage name Rich Homie Quan, who is an American rapper and singer. He was previously signed to labels T.I.G. Entertainment and Motown, and is an independent artist as of 2021. Quan experienced commercial success with the 2013 single "Type of Way" and the 2015 single "Flex.” Marco gets into the interview immediately asking Quan where his name came from. After that Marco goes straight into Quan’s lyrics and his favorite songs. Marco dabbles in some personal life questions for which Quan says he is in a relationship and satisfied with the kids he has. Quan reveals his first job was at Six Flags and also says he would like to collaborate with Summer Walker and Bobby Brown. Quan talks about being bipolar and how he deals and admits to being a liar after Marco asks him. Quan speaks on his hiatus from the industry saying it was all about re-centering. Marco introduces independent artist Code Red to the set and asks him to do a freestyle rap for Quan which turns into a conversation about retirement and rapping. Marco asks the production team about questions that they put on the paper; the production team defends their stance admitting to doing a background check on Quan. Quan becomes aggravated saying that the background check was unnecessary. Marco asks the team if everything is ok and all hell starts to break loose as Rich Homie Quan isn’t for the games…

Hey, that's, it that's.

It.

All right? You rolling all right let's get into it.

My brother all right.

So rich, homie, quan, yeah, how you realize you got three names in one? I've heard it, you know, I'm saying, I've heard it it's all good, though break it down where'd.

It come from just rich, homie, uh, rich as your spirit homies and brother and I'm saying, why don't you just pick one it didn't matter, it's just like that's, how I describe myself, but quan would have been cool, too like quan.

I get that every day though so, yeah.

So here we just try to like figure out, you know, lyrics.

And what was you thinking at the time? So when you say you ain't got to flex, oh boy, I got it.

I ain't got a flex loaded money.

You know what I'm saying cars like whatever I'm, just I got it.

I ain't got a blitz.

What do you flex at me? I put on and I'm saying, putting that [ __ ] on nah, just like putting it in a face like to the max, but you're.

The only one in here with a rolex and a chain, though that's a pat pack now I ain't putting it in your face.

I see it do y'all see it.

It seemed like a flex.

Anyone else got one on.

I got some watches on who well.

I don't bat, though, oh you got it on.

You got that [ __ ] on as I should what would be your favorite song.

You've been done.

And why my favorite song, uh, it'll probably be something unreleased.

But we talking like as far as songs that's, how I don't really have no favorite.

They all my babies.

Oh, how many kids do you got? I got four boys man.

How many you want that's about it? You don't have to answer if you don't want to are you currently in a relationship or you're, single I'm in a relationship, how you are? Yeah, okay.

So with the uh kids, do you feel like you want me girls? Uh, I don't know, I don't know, I like I like parenthood, though, mm-hmm, what would you describe yourself like if you can compare yourself to any animal? What would it be and why the animal? Yeah, um, the eight nine to eight, the king of the like season season, yeah, like playing a little eighth season, the only one talking so like, why would you compare yourself to that you're the king of the jungle? He run everything everything go through season you ever been to the jungle.

No probably bringing out no animal now, bro, no we're, not breaking all items off.

I just want to know like if you say that you will be the king of the jungle.

You've never been.

I don't.

I don't have to go.

I didn't know, I would be the king of the jungle.

If I wasn't, if he wasn't animal, yeah, what have you ever watched the bootleg movie before what's up? What movie was that it's a couple of them a lot of them? How do you feel when people boot like your cds? Uh, I wouldn't like it, but you watching bootleg movies, that's different, though back then like bootleg was like a thing bootleg cds was a thing.

I went making music.

Then what was you doing back? Then what was your first job? I worked at six flags, six flights.

Yeah.

So you did.

You did they call you rich? Then I was just homie it's corn, right? So when you got money, they called you rich.

Now, I was calling myself rich homie before I got money.

This is crazy y'all.

He said, he got a flexible what's the front of his name.

Well, yeah, I'm saying, like sound like a flex to me, rich as in spirit, rich, let's, not get away from the.

You know, what I'm saying, okay, okay.

Last time you read the bible.

That was the last time I read a bible probably about like a year and a half one thing I understand is you can go to church.

I went to church since I was like, I was three when I started going to that church.

And I was 23 when I stopped one, and we was on the same book, the same bible.

Why did it take that long to read the bible? I don't know why I'd take that long and read about how long it took you to read it it's still going on? Who is somebody that you haven't made a song with that you would like to make a song with just a r b singer, somebody you haven't done r.

B, summer walker, that's, a good night club.

Chloe, bailey, uh.

What about bobby brown that's? My generation, would you do something with bobby brown? Yeah, bobby though, yeah, bobby the og.

Yeah, I think we can set that up.

Yeah, all right can y'all get bobby brown on the phone come on baby.

You want to talk to bobby brown right now.

Oh, so you don't want that song now, you're, saying, like right now, just like the right time we're doing the interview, oh, okay.

Well, we're just gonna put that part up, nah man, you know, but we've got the whole light going all right? So I got some.

I got some stuff that I wrote down all right.

I just want to see your answers to this all right? Do you feel like you're living right now for sure I'm living a lot of people are alive I'm living.

Yeah, I'm surviving.

But I just feel as if I'm just breathing I'm, not living I'm living.

What okay, okay, these disguises are messing.

Okay.

How do you feel about peer pressure and do you feel like that ever happened to you? Um, uh, peer pressure's, a [, __, ], peer pressure's, a [ __ ].

I think we've all been pressured by our peers I'm asking you these questions because you didn't change your answer.

These are something that you already said before I changed a lot of them.

Yeah, yeah.

Why would you even ask me, stupid I'm just trying to see if you got the same answer? Do you feel like you're alive? Do I think I'm a light? Yeah, answer it.

The right way.

Yeah, I don't really be lying like that though break it down.

It depends on like what the question is.

It depends on like the circ*mstance and the question, right? How do you feel about exes it's over with? I don't really feel nowhere about them.

I don't want to look back have you ever dumped a girl before I really went to the girl don't.

You man, wow.

So how does that go like have you ever cried for a girl like cried over a girl like damn? Yeah, when I was young, how was it what's? Her name? You said, you lie it's the time to do it.

Yeah, I cried before what was her name? Miss ford.

What happened? Why did I break up young? Man? Man are you a chief? Am I a cheater, yeah, like in school like on tests, you thought I was going there.

Huh? I ain't messing with them, no.

And I ain't really cheating like that man like that, no I'm, not a cheater.

Not in school.

Be honest.

Yeah.

You're.

Good.

Do you got a good energy? Yeah.

So like what do you feel like the people should be expecting for you like coming out like? Do you feel like it's a rebrand to yourself, or you feel like it's still you just, yeah.

I wouldn't say, it's, a re-branding more like a recenter that missing no y'all know what that mean I didn't know what that I just like, because I it's like I'm, not rebranding, just, you know what I'm saying re-centering myself get myself back on focus man, you know, I'm just moving forward that's, how I'm right I'm glad you said that because it was one that you said, boy, I'm, not stopping.

Boy stopping is not an option.

I can't help it because I got it, but you stopped.

I didn't.

Stop.

Man.

I didn't stop.

What do you call it? I was uh chilling.

No, I wouldn't say, chilling man, just going through like litigations and stuff is that nature.

But with your fans, you said, boy, ain't stopping and I'm.

Not I haven't.

Huh? I have it I'm saying, like you got it that's.

One thing you got it.

You ain't lost it.

You got it.

You just didn't give it to us.

But I can't say, I stopped right? You didn't.

Stop.

You got it, but you didn't give it to us.

So are you selfish in a way you are in a way? So how are you in a relationship? We understand each other? I mean, I'm, like I said, I'm, selfish like to an extent I ain't just selfish, but you know, right? What's mine is mine.

So somebody out there that's named quan right last name.

No just quant.

Yeah, he's got a client out there, he's, somebody homie right mm-hmm.

But he ain't got no money.

Right? Did you call him? Bro call me quinn.

Nah, oh, we actually got uh, where's that uh, co-red.

You come over here.

Yeah, you said, what? No this code? Ray right here? Uh, co-red, uh, if you can bust a freestyle for him, you can probably get a song.

Could you do it right now? Yeah, just our wrap just rap real quick.

No just right now.

Don't talk to him just right? Yeah, this is your chance to get a feature.

He been rapping for nine years.

Now he got 13 13, 000 views in a year.

Crazy, right? [.

__ ] is blowing up you talking about this old song, it's blowing up, though it's blowing up like 53, 53.

Yeah, [ __, ] blowing up.

This [, __, ] blowing up.

This [ __ ] is blowing up right now.

Uh, just rap something right now.

Yeah.

I mean what come on bro? Do you want to retire a rapper? Or what you ain't got that long? I said, I ain't.

Nobody got a concussion.

Yeah, cuz.

Yeah, yeah.

[ __ ] would have been like all right? Okay, let's.

Go.

Listen, though all right, oh, yeah, if you want a package maker order, I'm gonna fill it do a lot of cooking in the kitchen with the skillet that's crazy.

You taught my option.

You 53.

Do you want to be like that? He was throwing up 53 talking about ops.

I ain't going to be 53 rapping.

You right? No, are you going to own like a mcdonald's or something? I don't know what the future holds? But you know, I don't know, I don't know, uh anything like could you tell us a good thing to invest in real estate? Real estate watches watches.

Yeah, how much money have you spent in the day like the most you just spent the day on the item, not a lot about the house, besides the house let's say, like an item something that you was like damn.

I shouldn't have done watch.

No.

I wouldn't say, I shouldn't have done it, but you know, it was a pretty penny.

So you ain't never spent something like that was stupid right there.

But I got it.

Yeah.

So situation, I just want to get your opinion on it.

We got a guy.

He was with his baby mama.

He had her car, put some rims on it, uh, tinted, the windows, and it was her car.

And she ended up taking the car.

He woke up.

He was crying.

Somehow somebody stole the car.

She said, I'll, take the car.

How do you feel about that sounds like what happened in baby? Boy? How you feel about it though I mean, that's it, it really happened.

So I promised he got his own car.

So I didn't want to happen.

You should probably be embarrassed also now you hating on us.

Huh? I'm.

Not, hey man, clark block have you ever been clock blocked before like damn.

You clock blocked me.

Have I ever been caught blocked? Yeah, yeah.

How did you feel probably mad at the moment? I got over I ever been a clock blocker.

I thought it was, yeah, like you basically stopped somebody from getting some play.

Yeah, but you're saying, clock block, yeah, that's.

What he pulled up on the internet? Uh, I thought you hear me.

Why is it? Why did you just put that on the paper that's? What he said on google it, uh, he said that you applied for target, and they didn't hire you.

And that was on a job that you really wanted to work at, oh, that's, accurate, that's, correct.

He said that he worked.

He tried to apply for target back in high school that he didn't hire.

Yeah.

So target inspired you.

I don't even think that's, actually he said, it was something about a drug test.

You can't, even smell them like weeds.

I wanted to work in target.

But after uh, getting refused to work determined.

He picked up his hobby.

He said, music was just a hobby at first.

I never saw myself on stage in rocky house shows after I got out of jail.

I started taking more seriously that's when my dream came true.

So you got a message for target, oh man, shout out to.

But I still don't think that you that's crazy.

So you just following the foster information is this about your cousin.

I know it don't make sense like why this is 2022 that's like some police, [, __ ].

Now he did a background check on you right? Yeah.

I don't care what it says like what is your background? Why you know mine? Why would you put it down like an interview? You need content for your interview that's? Why you're out [ __, ], that's, too much, is that camera rolling? I mean, we might have to start over a little bit if that's okay, like maybe from like the beginning, that's starting the whole interview over.

I mean, I mean you could maybe like reach just redo what you already did.

It might make it easier whatever on top of recreation.

Now.

So you want to do a read that's, what say you want to redo the whole thing he don't got and then you ain't, you ain't facing me for real.

So the whole time we've been filming, it ain't been no interview.

We might be able to like get the budget for cgi.

Yeah.

Okay.

We'll just we'll.

Just go ahead and uh, cgi everything that we did before and just pick it up from here.

There's like, you know, there's, um, deep, fake stuff, but we can just make your voice.

You know, he'd give you a white checkup with y'all, yeah, in my chat, just like, you know, count backwards for like, no just getting like two persons, because what are you doing? It might have been, huh? The mic.

Yeah, it's on.

Oh, no.

It was muted that's.

Why? Oh crap.

Okay, what the hell are you serious? One of y'all gotta go, pick, uh, bro.

Can you go head up? I don't, he don't.

So you just want him.

Okay? So you want to do a voiceover and not record it.

You want him to match up.

Yeah, what we already got adr like you just come in he's, not going to remember word from word to put the voice by your neck in there, you can't just pick up from what like in the middle.

I mean, yeah, like yeah, you can just say what you said, like just think back to like 20 minutes ago and just say what you said you talking about 22 minutes.

Man, the top start over.

We were like 20 minutes in, oh boy, he'll be real.

Oh no.

Wait.

Wait.

Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.

Come on bro.

You already ran in the background.

[ __, ].

You didn't looked up.

My network, [, __, ], ain't, recording it ain't funny, bro, I know, yeah, I gonna run [ __ ] out bro.

Yeah.

They had any [ __, ], yeah, all right.

So how about you just head outside and quit? Yeah, I'll be in the partner, y'all do together.

Now he got a new set are you from alabama? Six years ago, who the [ __ ], come that's, what's wrong who lives in alabama.

You been alabama, my bad.

So you know him, oh, I'm.

Sorry, I'm just saying, bro, I'm, really a good guy like I'm, naturally, just like silly.

But yeah, I know all right.

So where are we? What are we doing I'm just trying to catch it? Listen man, I ain't been fighting.

We ain't starting over.

Yeah.

I do fine promise or what though, but you got me on here, talking about what what's your favorite time to cereal.

What kind of question was that those were just random questions really is this a real interview bro it's, a real interview.

He said, do you really think aliens really is this who's? The first person if donkey kong wouldn't the monkey, what would you call it? You see what I'm saying, well playing this [ __, ] man, him, that's, a good job, bro I'm, just saying why you like come on man like dude, questions, like I thought we would come and do the funny [.

__, ].

You be doing.

Yeah.

This [ __, ], funny.

I didn't tell you to say, [, __, ] about no aliens.

I don't even know what the [ __ ] aliens are you a is a hot topic right now, where I'm not [ __, ], dude, the government's like aliens breaking the net.

Right? I said what no I'm saying, if you say you like aliens, he's, saying, that's gonna [ __ ] up the internet.

You didn't just blow up his [, __, ].

Cool.

If rich homie car says, I think aliens exist.

It will go viral.

I just get them saying that thing I'm not saying that, oh, my god, like I really went through hard work.

Last night all night I had two flat tires.

Come here.

You kept calling me.

And he was like, I got really good stuff.

This [ __, ], ain't, good all right, that's.

What I pray that's.

What I did.

Can we get the last five minutes you really want him to say that five minutes by the time we are up here talking about this.

But you said, make sure you get him to say that he thinks aliens exist.

That's, boom, that's.

All you need.

I just want to ask you ask the question it's, a simple question, he answered, yes, or no how many [ __ ].

What is he who is he taught my background.

He did the background check man.

Man, listen, bro, it's, the mic on the memory now and the memory card memory card.

So I'm, just putting the memory.

No, we just pranked.

You look, allison said, I'm, like everybody, look everybody in on it right now.

So look at her come on man, you ain't gonna do the interview that what is it? You just dizzy, bro, that's, everything bruh, how you don't be laughing.

This [ __ ] is going to really help bro.

But you really had no questions on there.

It's proof, come on man.

Man, really like the police.

Man, no, he ain't nothing.

They had me wondering that I really appreciate it I'm looking at drake.

I know we stayed on board and everybody.

No.

We've been getting everybody like this I'll do that [ __, ], french montana, right? Do you speak french? I used to what happened to it.

And then I feel like you're, the like the first person to do a whole song saying, like the same thing over and over and over, you know that which one [ __ ] ain't worried about nothing you.
